Step-by-Step Instructions
1: Mark the Rails
- Starting about 12” behind the center of the main front 4” cross-tube, place an 18” strip of painter’s tape down the center bottom of both main frame rails.
- Determine where to locate the skid plate. The wider bent flange should face forward and bend upward. Ensure you have oil pan drain plug access.
- Mark the forward edge of the skid plate mounting flange on the tape.
2: Prepare the Template
- Cut the supplied template in half along the center line.
- Trim out the half-circles and small arrowhead notches.
- Check the level of your car on the forward 4” cross tube using a torpedo level. Note any angle error.
- Hold the level on the template crossline, place the template on the main frame rail, and align to be level (or match your measured error).
- Make a mark at the arrowhead notch on the taped frame rail.
3: Create Guide Lines
- Repeat marking several times per rail (4–6 marks recommended).
- Connect the marks into straight lines with a yard stick.
- Ensure the lines on both rails are 24” apart; adjust slightly if needed.
4: Initial Mounting
- Hold the skid plate at your marked forward location.
- Center the bolt holes over the marked lines.
- Mark and center punch one forward-most mounting hole.
- Drill with the supplied #21 bit.
- Tap with the supplied #10-32 tap, using cutting fluid.
- Lightly secure the skid plate with one bolt (do not fully tighten).
5: Secure the Second Hole
- Align the plate so all remaining bolt holes line up with the marked lines.
- Snug the first bolt.
- Mark the diagonally opposite rear hole.
- Remove the plate, center punch, drill, and tap that hole.
6: Complete the Remaining Holes
- Install the plate with two bolts.
- Mark, punch, drill, and tap the remaining four holes.
- Remove the plate and clean out all tapped holes.
- Remove any cutting fluid.
7: Final Install
- Apply thread-locker to all six bolts.
- Reinstall the plate and tighten bolts in a star pattern.
